This year, the average sugar beet yield decreased by 1,5 tonnes per hectare, compared to last year's figure. In 2018, the yield reached 569 centners/ha, but now — 419 centners/ha.

Therefore, sugar production was also reduced. It is already clear that last year's figure — 424 thousand tonnes of sugar — will not be achieved.

This year, the regional sugar beet area reduced to 44,2 thousand hectares. The local refineries processed 1,5 million tonnes of sugar beet. According to the results of the current production season, in a best-case scenario, the region will produce 300 thousand tonnes of sugar. 

«Dry weather conditions were unfavorable for spring sowing and autumn harvesting», — commented Valentyna Kyrylyuk, Deputy Head of the Department of Agroindustrial Development, Ecology and Natural Resources.

Two of six sugar refineries have already completed sugar-refining season.
