Vinnytsia region produced 35 thousand tonnes of sugar
Six sugar refineries of Vinnytsia region produced 35 thousand tonnes of sugar.
It is reported by «Golos Ukrainy».
This is more than last year's level, although there were seven sugar refineries in operation.
Almost 500 centners of beet are harvested per hectare. It is 54 centners more than last year. More raw materials — more sugar. Sugar beet are harvested from the area of more than 6 thousand hectares, which is 11% of the total area of 55,4 thousand hectares.
Sugar beet roots grew well due to the rains in late July - early August. Sugar content is slightly lower, compared with last year's level. However, such a sunny weather, as now, helps sugar beet roots to accumulate more sugar. According to the forecasts, at the end of September beet roots will "get" sugar not less than last year.
«If the weather does not prevent harvesting, the local producers will produce sugar as much as last year, — says Mykola Tkachuk, the head of the Department for agro-industrial development, ecology and natural resources, — However, some experts forecast that sugar beet production will increase by 10-15% compared with last year. Accordingly, more sugar will be produced».
In 2017 the local sugar refineries produced 445,6 thousand tonnes of sugar (22% of the total Ukrainian sugar production). 2,5 million tonnes of beet were grown in the fields of the region. Another 500 thousand tonnes were imported for processing from the neighboring regions.
