Ukraine filled the quota of duty free sugar exports to the EU during the first month of 2019
According to «Ukrsugar« Association, Ukraine filled the quota of duty free sugar exports to the EU during the first month of 2019.
«On January 30, the quota of duty free sugar exports to the EU in the amount of 20 thousand tonnes was completely filled. It is evidence that this direction remains a priority for Ukrainian sugar producers, especially given the logistic proximity and the global sugar deficit expected in the next marketing year», — commented Ruslana Butylo, the deputy chairman of «Ukrsugar» Association.
In total, 41,0 thousand tonnes of sugar were exported in January. Romania and Azerbaijan were the main importers — 17% and 10% of total supplies respectively.
«In addition, Italy and Spain (9%), Lithuania, Poland and Switzerland (4%) also imported Ukrainian sugar, suggesting the interest of European consumers in Ukrainian product. But, in order to develop sugar business in this market, in addition to increasing duty-free quotas, it is necessary to improve the quality and expand the range of products. All these issues will be discussed at Sugar World 2019 on February, 27», — explained Ruslana.
During September-January of 2018/2019 MY, 240 thousand tonnes of sugar were exported — 4% less than during the same period of the previous marketing year.
Recall that the production season finished on February 1, 2019. 42 sugar refineries produced 1,82 million tonnes of sugar. In 2018/2019 MY sugar export is expected at the level of the previous year — about 500 thousand tonnes.
