Ukraine expects increase in sugar beet sown area in 2023
In 2023, the number of working sugar factories in Ukraine will reach 29, six more than the previous year. It is reported by Acting Chairman of the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine «Ukrsugar» Nazar Mykhailovyn for UkrAgroConsult.
«Due to the military actions on the territory of our country last year, there were serious problems in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr and Chernihiv regions. They could not participate in beet planting and sugar producing. 23 factories worked in Ukraine in 2022, to which six more enterprises will join this year», — said Nazar Mykhailovyn.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the expected sugar beet sown area this year will reach 220,000 hectares, which practically corresponds to the pre-war figure of 226,000 hectares. In the military year of 2022, it was possible to sow sugar beets on the area of 181.4 thousand hectares.
According to the manufacturer's forecasts, the raw material base will be replenished thanks to novice farmers. Nazar Mykhailovin said that many agrarians are interested in the liquidity of sugar beets because of the difficulties that arose with the sale of wheat, corn and sunflower. He emphasized that there is no need to invest additional money in sugar beets, because they do not need drying or storage.
