Ukraine decreased sugar production by 15%

According to the results of 2018/2019 MY, Ukraine produced 1,82 million tonnes of sugar — 15% less than the previous year.

«This season 42 sugar refineries processed 13,6 million tonnes of sugar beet — almost 10% less than last year. As a result of reduced harvested area and raw materials quantity, we received 15% less sugar. However, this will be enough to meet the demand and implement foreign economic contracts», — commented the deputy chairman of «Ukrsugar» Association and the leading speaker of Sugar World 2019 Ruslana Butylo.

She noted, that the poor quality of raw materials became another reason for sugar production decline in 2018/2019 MY. As Association had previously reported, in 2018, farmers were able to get record sugar beet yields, but sugar content was almost at the lowest level — 16,47%.

As usual, Vinnytsia region became the leader in sugar production — 424,0 thousand tonnes. Ternopil region occupied the second place — 227,0 thousand tonnes. Poltava region became the third having produced 222,5 thousand tonnes of sugar.

More information on the results of production season and forecasts of the future sowing campaign will be presented at the 3-rd International Congress for sugar beet producers and processors Sugar World 2019, which will take place on February, 27 in Terminal Mall.
