Sugar beet sowing has started in Bukovyna: farmers have already sown 100 hectares.

This is reported by Chernivtsy RMA.

This crop is grown in agricultural formations and this year they plan to sow the same area as in 2024 — approximately 2 thousand hectares.

Currently, sugar beet sowing has begun at «Zakhidnyi Bug» PE. This is the only farm that has been sowing this crop in Chernivtsy district for several years in a row. Last year, sugar beets were grown on the area of 1.5 thousand hectares, and this year they plan to expand the sowing area to 1.9 thousand hectares.

In recent years, sugar beet production has been increasing in Chernivtsy region. This is due to both the expansion of sowing areas and the increase in beet yield. In particular, in 2024, the sugar beet gross yield amounted to 146.5 thousand tonnes — or 53% more than in 2022 and almost 28% more than in 2023.

Last year, in Bukovuna the average sugar beet yield reached almost 74.9 t/ha. This is a record level for all years of sugar beet cultivation in the region. And according to the operational data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, last year, Chernivtsy region took the 2-nd place in the ranking of regions in terms of sugar beet yield.
