The European Commission allowed Ukraine to export 320,000 tonnes of sugar to the countries of the bloc in 2024. Last year, this figure was 500,000 tonnes.

Vyacheslav Chuk, commercial director of «Astarta-Kyiv», told about this at Agro Ukraine Summit, Latifundist.com reported.

«This limits Ukraine and the industry from the point of view of export, taking into account that this year more than 1.8 million tonnes of sugar were produced, Ukraine consumes about 1 million tonnes of sugar, with a limit of 300 thousand tonnes of export to the EU, so there is a need for another 500 thousand tonnes to export somewhere», — Vyacheslav Chuk commented.

He added that «Astarta» continues to build long-term relations with partners in the European Union, but it is possible to export sugar to the countries of the Mediterranean and Africa, depending on the situation on the global market.

Recall that the European Commission plans to introduce an "emergency braking" mechanism to stabilize imports at the level of average import volumes in 2022-2023 for three types of Ukrainian products — poultry, eggs and sugar. If these import volumes are exceeded, import tariffs will be applied.
