The EBRD will finance up to 20 bioenergy projects in Ukraine
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development expects to organize financing for 10-20 bioenergy projects in Ukraine in the next four years.
It is reported by «Interfax-Ukraine».
The EBRD is involved in financing the construction of wind power plants, SES — these projects will be financed further. But now the institution wants to focus its attention on bioenergy projects — biogas, biomass, second generation bioethanol production.
«We plan to finance 10-20 such projects in the next 3-4 years», — said Sergiy Maslychenko, Associate Director of the Department for Energy Efficiency and Climate Change of the EBRD (Ukraine, Poland and the Caucasus).
Ukraine has a large potential of bioenergy resources (husk, straw, other agricultural waste), which equals 30 million tonnes of oil equivalent.
«At the same time, practice shows — market participants lack the knowledge and competencies in this area. Therefore, we intend to prepare a special program by the end of the year. Within its framework, among other things, experts will be involved, technical assistance will be provided, perhaps an SEO-club on bioenergy will be organized», — summarized the Associated Director of the Department of Energy Efficiency and Climate Change of the EBRD.
The EBRD has already funded 8 projects in this area in Ukraine, and 3-4 projects are under consideration by the Bank now.
