Sugar exports increased by 59%
In November Ukrainian producers exported 67,2 thousand tonnes of sugar, which is 59% more than the previous month.
«67,2 thousand tonnes of sugar were exported in November. The geography of exports did not change significantly. The main deliveries were made to Turkmenistan (14%), Sri Lanka (14%), Switzerland (12%), Azerbaijan (11%) and Turkey (10%)», — commented Ruslana Butylo, the head of the analytical department of «Ukrsugar».
In total for 11 months of the current year, producers put 551,0 thousand tonnes of sugar to the foreign markets, which is 64% more than in the same period of the last year — 335,25 thousand tonnes.
According to Ruslana Butylo, such increase was conditioned by the favorable price situation in the world market at the beginning of the year and a significant increase in sugar production: «In MY 2016/2017, sugar production reached 2,02 million tonnes, with domestic consumption decreasing every year. In addition, the favorable situation in the world market at the beginning of the year allowed to realize surpluses and to reduce the tension from the internal market. At the moment, the world market is somewhat subsided, but further sugar supplies will be continued».
Recall, according to forecasts of the Association, in MY 2017/2018 sugar production will remain at the last year level — about 2,0 million tonnes.
As of December 6, 1,75 million tonnes of sugar were produced and 12,27 million tonnes of sugar beet processed. In total, 46 sugar refineries worked in the season, 24 of which have already completed the production season.
