«Olgopil» AF completes sugar beet harvesting
Last year, the yield of sugar beets was higher than in previous years, and attracted by its marginality. However, without experience and marketing, sweet roots can turn into bitter radish. That is why there is a special approach and increased attention to this culture at «Olgopil» AF.

Last year, the farm planted 85 hectares with sugar beets, and in 2023, 130 hectares of sown areas were set aside for sugar beet. The argument is that the sugar factory, where the beets are sold according to the distribution scheme, needs more raw materials. And since the enterprise is located 70 km from Olgopil, the sugar factory delivers sweet roots for production at its own expense under the contract. Therefore, the profitability of culture increases.
«During the years of operation of our agri-enterprise, we have already had our hands full on the cultivation of sugar beets», — admits Oleksandr Palaichuk, the chief agronomist of «Olgopil» AF. — This is also reflected in the yield. Last year, the average yield was 74 t/ha. Currently, 25 hectares are left to be harvested, but the yield is not lower than last year. Professional equipment works in the fields. We harvest sugar beets as carefully as possible so that after processing they give high results».
In general, to grow sugar beets, you need to be ready both materially and morally, say the agronomists of «Olgopil» AF. Its profitability, taking into account the prices of seeds, fertilizers, plant protection products and the costs of cultivation, digging, etc., is possible under the condition of a yield of at least 500 centners/ha. Therefore, before deciding to grow this culture or not, it is worth calculating all the pros and cons. In addition, for the cultivation of sugar beet, the farm must have tillage equipment, sprayers and harvesters. After all, sugar factories have a schedule for receiving sweet roots and will not wait for raw materials for processing.
