More than 50 thousand tonnes of sugar exported in May
In May, Ukrainian sugar producers exported 54 thousand tonnes of sugar or 29% more than in the previous month.
«Uzbekistan became the main importer of Ukrainian sugar in May — 72%. Also, 11% of shipments were made to Great Britain, 5% — to Azerbaijan, and 4% — to Moldova», — commented Ruslana Butylo, the head of the analytical department of «Ukrtsugar».
During nine months of 2017/2018 MY, 433,3 thousand tonnes of sugar were exported — 36% less than during the same period last year.
«Last year's record sugar export volume was according to the favorable global market situation, however, this year the situation has changed a bit and sugar surplus is estimated at almost 10 million tonnes. Therefore, high prices aren't worth expecting either in the current or next season», — the expert summed up.
Recall that this year's sugar beet grown area is 280 thousand hectares, which is 13% less than last year. According to the Association's forecasts, sugar beet production will decrease by about 10% and fluctuate within 13,1 million tonnes. Consequently, sugar production will amount to about 1,75 million tonnes, which is 17% less than this year's figure. About 40 sugar refineries will work in the season.
