As of October, 17 more than a half of sugar beet crop have been harvested in Ukraine.
«7million tonnes of beet are harvested, the average yield is 433 centners/ha, which is 6% less than last year's level», — comments Vasyl Dolinsky, the analyst of the commodity markets and agriculture of «Ukrsugar».
The largest "sweet" harvest was collected in Vinnytsia (1 407 thousand tonnes), Khmelnytsk (1 116 thousand tonnes), Ternopil (652 thousand tonnes), Poltava (629 thousand tonnes) regions.
Fast end of the season is expected in Volyn region, 81% of sugar beet crop have been harvested there. More than a third of sugar beet have been harvested in Kharkiv, Lviv and Kyiv regions, while Mykolaiv region is only approaching to this mark.
«This season the yield of sugar beet is lower due to the weather conditions, so the western and "irrigated" southern regions have received much better results than the central and eastern ones. Agrarians from Kherson, Khmelnytsk, Lviv, and Ternopil regions have succeeded in obtaining more than 500 centners/ha. While in the regions, suffered from cold spring, and dry summer, such as: Kharkiv, Kyiv, Cherkasy and Sumy regions — the average yield varies in the range of 340-370 centners/ha», — explains Vasyl Dolinsky.
As of October 18, 672,6 thousand tonnes of sugar were produced and 4,99 million tonnes of sugar beet are processed. The production season began on August 30. Currently, there are 43 sugar refineries in operation.
