Lviv region harvested 23% of sugar beets
In 2024, Lviv region increased the sugar beet area by 9% — up to 16.1 thousand hectares, compared to last year.
It is reported by press service of Lviv Regional Military Administration.
Sugar beet cultivation is concentrated in Zolochiv, Lviv, Stryi and Chervonograd districts, «Zahidny Bug» LLC is the main producer, which provides more than 70% of local sugar beet production. In total, 20 agricultural enterprises of the region cultivate sugar beets.
Over the past five years, the area under sugar beets increased by 27% (from 12.6 to 16.1 thousand hectares), and the production volumes for the period 2020-2023 increased by 34% (from 723 to 968 thousand tonnes). According to operational data of the Administration, as of September 17, sugar beets were harvested by producers of the region from the area of 3.8 thousand hectares (23% of the sown area), 251.3 thousand tonnes were harvested, and the yield amounted to 663 t/ha.
«During the current season, dry weather conditions have somewhat affected the mass of root crops, and the beet yield remains at last year's level. However, taking into account the increased sown areas, we forecast to harvest at least 1030,0 tonnes of root crops», — said the Acting Director of the Administration Lyudmila Honcharenko.
