Lviv region completed 2022 sugar beet sowing
Lviv region completed sugar beet sowing campaign. The total sown area this year amounts to 15.8 thousand hectares, which is 11.3% (1.6 thousand hectares) more than a year ago.
It is reported by Department of Agricultural Development of Lviv Regional Military Administration.
The largest sown areas are traditionally recorded in Chervonohrad (7.3 thousand hectares), Zolochiv (4.7 thousand hectares), Stryi (3.2 thousand hectares) districts of the region. The first harvest of sugar beets in the region is planned for the first half of September.
According to the State Statistics Service, last year Lviv region harvested 848.5 thousand tonnes of sugar beets with the average yield of 597 centners per hectare. In terms of sown areas and sugar beet production, the region ranks seventh among the regions of Ukraine.
In total, the production of this crop in the region has increased by 9.2% over the last five years.
«This year the sowing conditions are too difficult, but farmers are trying to sow on time. And the result of timely sowing are high yields and sales of cultivated products to processing plants. The main market for sugar beets is Radekhiv Sugar Refinery, which is the only sugar production plant in the region», — commented Tetyana Hetman, the Director of Department of Agricultural Development of Lviv Regional Military Administration.
