Khmelnytsk region harvested 240,000 tonnes of sugar beets

As of October 1, 5,4 thousand hectares of sugar beets were harvested in Khmelnytsk region — 2,4 times more than last year. The yield amounted to 445,4 centners/ha against 367 centners/ha last year. Increased area and yield allowed to significantly increase the farmers' incomes: 240,2 thousand tonnes were harvested — 2,9 times more than last year.

Most sugar beets were grown by agricultural companies; the private sector planted only 146,9 hectares of beets, or less than three percent of the total area. The yield although increased by 2,3% but it was much lower (356,8 centners/ha) than that of agricultural enterprises. The peasants harvested 5,2 thousand tonnes of sugar beets.

Agribusiness harvested 5,2 thousand hectares or 246,5% of last year's area. As of October 1, agricultural enterprises received 235 thousand tonnes of beets — three times more than last year. The yield amounted to 447,9 centners/ha.

Of course, as of early October the situation does not indicate the record crop. The field works are still ongoing, and the final results will be received at the end of the year. 

In 2018, beets were harvested from the area of 28,3 thousand hectares; 1,4 million tonnes of beets were harvested with the yield of 498,1 centners/ha. In 2019 — 27,2 thousand hectares, 1,4 million tonnes of roots due to higher yield — 513,3 centners/ha. Last year, according to the Main Department of Statistics of Khmelnytsk region, 958,8 thousand tonnes of beets were harvested from the area of 23,7 thousand hectares with the yield of 403,8 centners/ha.
