«Kamaz-Agro» agrofirm (village of Ostrozhets Rivne region) became the first in Ukraine to introduce the German technology of sugar beet cultivation.

It was announced by the director of the agrofirm Mykola Koshelia, AgroTimes reports.

He says that this technology is based on the use of a certain hybrid and herbicide, which controls most of the known weeds and at the same time is tolerant to this hybrid.

It can be grown in the fields where small roots remained from the previously grown beet. Later new shoots grow from those roots, which can eventually grow and compete with seeded hybrids.

«We have several such fields. We figure out which hybrid gives such effect, and remove it from production. Instead, we sow a new one. The herbicide is twice introduced on the whole sown area and we get a perfectly clean field», — says Mykola Koshelia.

This year «Kamaz-Agro» has grown 9 ha of sugar beet using such technology, and next year it is planned to increase this area to 107 ha.

«Sugar beet is very important culture for us. Every year, we deliver 60 thousand tonnes of beet to the refinery under tolling conditions, from which we receive back more than 5 thousand tonnes of sugar. We sell this sugar when we need working capital — for salaries, for the purchase of machinery, etc.», — says the director of the agricultural company.

He addes that this year the sugar beet yield on the fields of the company amounted to 700 to 790 centners/ha.
