Gnidava Sugar Refinery processes sugar wastes into bioethanol and molasses residues

The sugar wastes have found their application and actively processed at leading European enterprises, the analogue of which in Ukraine is a bioethanol refinery.

Gnidava Sugar Refinery conducted a study, according to which after the introduction of molasses residues and soil sampling the laboratory tests showed the accumulation of valuable mineral fertilizers: nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, organic and valuable trace elements and soil deoxidation.

The sugar wastes have found their application and actively processed at leading European enterprises, the analogue of which in Ukraine is a bioethanol refinery, successfully operating in Lutsk. Today, Gnidava Sugar Refinery has stopped exporting molasses abroad and successfully processes it at the newly established enterprise, eventually receiving bioethanol and molasses residues, which until recently was the subject of discussions.

According to the results of the research, in May 2020 about 150 tonnes of molasses residues were applied per 1 hectare, and in September, according to the results of soil research, enrichment with nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium was obtained. Before the introduction of molasses residues (5,13 pH) the soil acidity was 6,35 and 7,51 pH was obtained after its introduction.

According to the microbiologist, the organic acidity of molasses residues, which decomposes in 10-12 days after the application, reacts with calcium (CaO), which is contained in molasses residues at the rate of 5-7 kg per tonn, which gives a positive result.

«We continue to sell molasses residues for the leading agricultural enterprises in Volyn region. Today there is a great interest in this organic fertilizer. This fertilizer has already proved its effectiveness, and agricultural enterprises are looking in the future and buying the necessary equipment for the introduction of molasses residues», — said the Deputy Director for Raw Materials Oleksandr Nikishyn.
