By 2020, China plans to transfer all cars in the country to bioethanol, the National Commission for Development and Reform of the People's Republic of China and the National Energy Administration said in mid-September. It can support the global bioethanol market, as China will be forced to buy either bioethanol or raw materials for its production.

In Ukraine, it is also planned to develop the liquid biofuels market, according to the State Agency for Energy Efficiency. «Nowadays the whole world is gradually transforming into "clean" fuels. This is a topical issue for Ukraine, which is largely dependent on petroleum products import. Moreover, given the possibilities of our agricultural sector, the annual potential of liquid biofuel production in Ukraine is 1 million tonnes», — said Sergiy Savchuk, State Energy Efficiency Representative.

The total production capacity of bioethanol in Ukraine currently amounts to 200 thousand tonnes per year. However, in 2013-14, its production was virtually destroyed by the introduction of excise duty on alternative motor fuels. Bioethanol is traditionally produced by fermentation of carbohydrate components of plant materials. Most often corn, sugarcane and beet molasses are used as the raw materials.
