As this year’s sugar beet harvest approaches, British Sugar have confirmed the campaign start dates for each of its four factories.

It is reported by newarkadvertiser.co.uk.

The factory beet intake will open at the Newark factory, on Great North Road, on September 23.

Some 100,000 hectares of sugar beet have been grown this season, and growers, hauliers and industry partners have been advised of beet intake times at the factories.

British Sugar is the sole processor of the UK’s beet sugar crop, and works with around 2,300 growers in the East of England, East Midlands and Yorkshire.

It follows a record breaking campaigning which finished in April after over eight million tonnes of sugar beet was processes over 228 days, producing approximately 1.1 million tonnes of sugar across all sites.

Dan Green, British Sugar’s agriculture director said: «As we look ahead to this year’s campaign, we look forward to working together with growers, harvesters and hauliers. We’d like to wish everyone across the British beet sugar industry all the best for a safe and successful campaign».
