«Astarta» completed the 2021 sugar beet processing season
«Astarta» completed the 2021 sugar beet processing season, which lasted 100 days. The Company processed 1,844kt of sugar beets and produced 266kt of sugar from sugar beets.

The sugar content in beets remained at a high level and averaged 17.0% at «Astarta» (compared to the 16.9% Ukrainian average according to «Ukrsugar»).
The sugar yield was 14.4% (compared to the 14.2% Ukrainian average according to «Ukrsugar»).
Valeriy Sokolenko, the Executive Director of «Astarta», commented: «This year, the Company's sugar plants processed 18% more sugar beets than in 2020 and produced 18% more white sugar than last year. Traditionally, 99% of sugar produced corresponds to the highest quality category, of which 53kt is of extra quality.
The organisational and technical measures and the introduction of resource-efficient technologies allowed «Astarta» to increase the energy efficiency of sugar production and reduce gas consumption per tonne of sugar beet by an average of 6% compared to 2020.
This year Globyno Sugar Plant was powered by biogas produced at Globyno Bioenergy Complex of the Company. An alternative to the natural gas it is made from organic residues of sugar production (raw pulp).»
In total «Astarta» produced 339kt of sugar from sugar beets and imported raw cane sugar.
The final 2021 harvest of «Astarta» totalled 1,584kt of sugar beets (gross yield — 47.4 t/ha).
