The course of spring sowing campaign is usually influenced by weather conditions, prices for agrochemicals, fuel and availability of working capital. Today, these factors are compounded by the war with all its manifestations. Nevertheless, 23 regions of Ukraine began sowing operations, «Agravery» reported.

Military actions, occupation, mined territories, blockade of sea routes, lack of workers and many other factors that in relatively peaceful times had never hindered Ukrainian farmers, stood in the way of sowing. The despair of the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine was replaced by a firm understanding that it is necessary to sow, otherwise — famine. And then the agrarians opened a real agrarian front.

«Flora A. A.» cultivates 1,200 hectares in Vinnytsia region. Last year, the company sowed sugar beets for testing. This year there were no plans to sow this crop. But everything was changed with the war, said the head of «Flora A. A.» Andriy Kapritsa.

«We did not plan to sow sugar beets at all, but given the current situation, when sugar sells well in the domestic market, we sowed a little more than 120 hectares of sugar beets. But this sowing took more urea, because sugar beet fertilizers were not expected. Now we have 10% fertilizers deficit for sunflower and corn, which is not critical, but, unfortunately, it is difficult to buy additional fertilizers due to their shortage. In addition, the price of urea is too high», — said the head of «Flora A. A.» Andriy Kapritsa.

The company had time to stock up everything necessary for the sowing campaign. Most of the fertilizers were brought last summer. Plant protection products were bought at the beginning of the Great War. 70% of fuel were saved before the war, the rest was bought at higher prices. But cold spring played into the hands of local farmers.

Those farmers who had the opportunity to purchase before February 24 do not have any problems with sowing. They do not even change the structure of crops. The work is on time.
