«Bilyi Kolodiaz» LLC (1-st Petrovskyi Sugar Refinery)

The history of the establishment of «Bilyi Kolodiaz» LLC sugar refinery dates back to the 19-th century.

In the 19-th century, the village of Bilyi Kolodiaz and the surrounding lands became the property of the great landowner, General Skalon M.A.

He had 8,000 acres of land, experimental field, meteorological station, cattle and horses, sheep breeder, brick, mill and sugar refinery, built in 1837. By that time, the refinery produced products at the cost of 500 thousand rubles. About 550 acres of land were allocated for sugar beet growing each year.

In 1896, it was built the railway, which linked the sugar refineries of Kursk and Kharkiv governorates. The construction of the railway gave impetus to the further sugar industry development. During the season of 1899, 181 thousand poods of sugar were produced.

At the beginning of 1905, new sugar refinery was built in Bilyi Kolodiaz, not far from the railway, and the old plant was demolished. The new enterprise employed more than 1000 workers.

The technical means of production were primitive, manual labor was mostly prevailed. The working day lasted 16-18 hours.

On November 11, 1905, a strike began in Bilyi Kolodiaz. The strikers demanded an 8-hours working day with salary preservation.

Since 1920, the sugar refinery became the property of people. After the Civil War, the refinery was partially plundered and destroyed. It was began the restoration of the sugar refinery, which was put into operation in 1921.

On August 13, 1922, at the request of the workers, the sugar refinery was renamed in honor of the Soviet state and party leader Petrovskyi. Due to the hard work of the workers, the refinery improved sugar production and quality of products.

In 1930, it was began the reconstruction of the refinery and created a state farm for sugar beet seeds growing. After the reconstruction, the refinery was renamed into «1-st Petrovskyi Sugar Refinery». In 1938, it processed 1.2 thousand tonnes of raw materials per day.

The refinery was reconstructed after the attack of Hitler's Germany on the Soviet Union. Since 1947, the sugar refinery was put into operation.

In the postwar years, the capacity of the refinery was rapidly increasing. In 1951-1952, the average daily beet processing was 1,300 t, and in 1965, it reached 2,200 t.

Almost all production processes were mechanized at the refinery. All this contributed to increasing productivity.

In 1997, 1-st Petrovskyi sugar refinery was reformed into «1-st Petrovskyi sugar refinery» OJSC. The average daily capacity reached 2,400 t. The performance indicators have been improving every after year. It was possible to achieve high indicators with the precise production organization and its technical re-equipment.

In 2001, the sugar refinery was renamed into «Bilyi Kolodiaz» LLC. The average daily capacity was 2.65-2.7 thousand tonnes of beet.

In recent years, diffusion, saturation, condenser installation, condensate collectors, vacuum devices have been automated, reconstruction of steam boiler have been carried out, frequency meters have been installed.

In 2006, it was replaced the boilers of 1-st and 2-nd carbonation. Due to implementation of the scheme with the separation of sludge to the main defecation, the refinery managed to reduce the cost of lime for cleaning and, as a consequence, the cost of stone.

«Bilyi Kolodiaz» sugar refinery held seminars at various levels several times. The company's specialists visit other refineries in order to capture the production experience.

The company closely works with academics, such as Shalatonov and Bolotov, to implement new scientific developments and achievements in sugar production.

All employees of the refinery are interested in improving the company's operations.

It is planned to increase capacity of the refinery, modernize production processes, which will positively influence the increase in sugar production and improve the financial condition of the enterprise in the nearest future.
