UNICA and the association of corn bioproducts producers expect a record ethanol production in 2026/27 MY, which will exceed the current season’s production by 4 billion liters. The projected additional ethanol production is equivalent to Brazil’s total gasoline imports in 2025.
The associations confirm the industry’s ability to meet the country’s fuel needs in the face of volatile global oil prices.
The production volume of hydrated and anhydrous ethanol is equivalent to more than 30 billion liters of gasoline. According to industry estimates, the use of ethanol has saved Brazilian consumers R$5 billion in 2025 and more than R$140 billion since the introduction of flex-fuel vehicles in Brazil.
The development of the ethanol production chain has been supported by a long-term policy since the 1970s, with the Proalcool program implementation. Last year, Brazilian government approved an increase in the mandatory ethanol blend in gasoline from 27% to 30%.
As part of the expansion of ethanol production, Brazilian government is evaluating a potential increase in ethanol blend in gasoline from 30% to 35%. This is in line with the guidelines of the Fuel of the Future Program, which aims to increase the use of renewable energy sources and reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector.
