The Indian Sugar Trade Association (AISTA) lowered its estimate for sugar production in 2025/26 by 4.4% — to 28.3 million tonnes.
AISTA said that in the current 2025/2026 MY, Indian sugar production is expected to reach 31.5 million tonnes, of which 3.2 million tonnes will be diverted for ethanol production.
AISTA attributed this to a reduction in cane yields in major producing states due to adverse weather conditions.
